David L. Meeks is the Founder and Director of the Meeks & Associates organization and network since 2002.

About David L. Meeks:

Mr. Meeks is a native Iowan and received his BA degree and Minor from the University of Nothern Iowa. Meeks has been a life-long human rights advocate for improving the quality of life for Iowans. He has achieved this means by addressing education on diversity awareness and appreciation, youth education and achievement gaps, minority incarceration and recidivism, and economic disparities amongst minorities.

 

Meeks has received recognitions in Des Moines, Waterloo, and most recent West Des Moines.

Empowerment Board Project (2018-2022); reduces unemployment/underemployment of African-Americans in the (7) largest communities within Iowa.

 

"Welcoming schools & community" initiatives (West Des Moines/Des Moines, Iowa);

"Connecting Young Hearts & Minds"; and "Connecting low income households to safe and healthy access to schools/participation" initiatives.

Waterloo Commission on Human Rights

  • Executive Director; 2005-2010. During this tenure Meeks addressed

    Compliance,Outreach & Education, and Partnership efforts. This included hate crimes protocols, adding sexual orientation policy, reducing civil rights complaints backlog from 3 years to 1, amongst a most active outreach & education periods in Commission history, and creating new community partnerships to marked levels.
  • Meeks commitment to "Connecting Young Hearts & Minds to Human Rights" inculded annual high school leadership conferences, youth K-6 projects, Young Men In Action program, and annual Summer Harmony Day festivals to name a few examples.
Iowa Department of Human Services
  • Executive Officer Diversity Programs; 2000-2005. During this tenure Meeks established statewide newtorks and community partnerships. Provided training and workshops in communities in Iowa including educational institutions, private schools, business, organizations, and public. Meeks as the compliance manager for anti discrimination policy and programs reached thousands of Iowans through investigations. training facilitations, and work shops.
  • Meeks efforts often targeted under served groups, addressing under utilization in employment by minority, persons with disability, and gender equity pay. Special needs education, youth-at-risk, ex-offenders and recidivism also were amongst the programs.
Iowa Civil Rights Commission
  • Civil Rights Specialist 1992-2000. Meeks performed service throughout owa as a civil rights investigator, trainer, and mediation. Meeks work covered the areas of employment, housing, education, credit, and public accommodations.
  • Meeks worked on the establishment of statewide diversity appreciation teams, establishing and responding to hate crimes protocals, Training in public and private K-12 schools, and employer and housing forums.

  • Nominated for the annual Susan Asklof inspiration award; West Des Moines School District (2018).
  • Elected to Waterloo, Iowa School Board (2009-2012).
  • Received the Friends of Iowa Civil Rights Award (2004).
  • Received the Iowas Mosaic Diversity Conference (Project Leadership Award 2004).
  • Elected to Polk County Extensions Board (1996-2000).
